Cancer Navigation Program

Advocacy, compassion, and support

The ZSFG Cancer Navigation Program (CNP) assists people with cancer by supporting them through their care. The CNP provides support in many ways, such as assisting with appointments, advocating for patients, and providing emotional support during treatments and their ongoing care.

About The Cancer Navigation Program

Our navigation team works closely with doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals. We make sure every patient—no matter what language they speak or where they come from—feels understood, supported, and knows what’s going on. We want every patient to feel strong and confident during their cancer treatment and recovery. We stay in touch with the health care team to help patients stay involved in their care every step of the way.

Our multilingual navigators are part of your medical team and provide:

  • Coordination of cancer treatment
  • Point of contact for patients and families
  • One-on-one emotional support
  • Accompaniment to oncology medical appointments (as needed)
  • Health education including diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship
  • Advocate for patients’ needs
  • Food resources
  • Transportation
  • Culturally competent referrals
  • Emergency financial assistance if applicable
  • CNP breast cancer support groups (currently available in English and Spanish)
