We offer health care services through our Newcomers Health Program. It is located at the Family Health Center. We provide health screenings and support services to newly-arrived refugees.

About ZSFG Refugee Services
We serve adults and families of all ages living in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin counties with the following humanitarian protection granted by the U.S. government:
- Refugee
- Asylee
- Humanitarian Parolees
- Special Immigrant Visa
- Victim of Trafficking / T- Visa
We help navigate health coverage and provide medical screenings including physical exams, lab tests including tuberculosis (TB) screening, vaccines, treatment, and referrals to specialists.
If you have not yet been granted status by the U.S. government, you can still receive support. Fill out the New Immigrant & Asylum Seeker Health Services (ASHS) form and our team will contact you.

Newcomers Health Program
Special Support Available
Refugees and other humanitarian immigrants are eligible for special health care. We also offer other support services for a healthy and successful resettlement.
Refugee and Asylee Health Assessment Program
Refugee and Asylee Health Assessment Program provides culturally and linguistically-appropriate comprehensive health assessments to newly arrived refugees, asylees, federally-certified victims of severe forms of trafficking, and other eligible entrants. The program focuses on screening of and prevention of communicable diseases. early identification and diagnosis of chronic diseases and other important conditions; assessment of immunization status for children and adults; mental health screening; and referral to health providers for further medical evaluation, treatment, and follow-up.
Benefits of getting a Refugee Health Assessment
- Create a health record in the U.S.
- Meet with a doctor who has experience working with refugees, and work with a qualified interpreter
- Learn about current health status and any health conditions
- Receive treatment, medications, and preventative healthcare
- Receive referrals to mental health specialists and support groups
- Receive immunizations to stay healthy, and that will help toward an application for lawful permanent residency or “green card”
New Asylee Orientations
(In partnership with the CA Department of Public Health’s Office of Refugee Health)
Monthly virtual orientation for individuals who have recently been granted asylum in Northern California. The orientation covers important time-limited benefits that may be available to asylees.
This free-of-charge, live online orientation provides important information on:
- Your right to employment
- Health insurance and healthcare
- Cash and food benefits
- The education system in the U.S.
- Immigration and other legal issues such as family reunification, travel and how to stay on track to adjust status to lawful permanent residency
- Contact links to government agencies
- Other helpful resources
