Specialty Medication Needs
Our Specialty Pharmacy team serves ZSFG patients with complex diseases needing specialty medications. Specialty medications may be more complicated to take or administer. They may need special storage. They may not be stocked at a retail pharmacy.
We work closely with your doctors at various ZSFG specialty clinics to meet your medication needs.
Those include dermatology, rheumatology, endocrinology, pulmonology, and oncology clinics.
We are an expanded service of the existing ZSFG outpatient pharmacy.

What is a specialty medicine?
A specialty medicine is more complex than a regular medicine you pick up from a retail pharmacy. It may be more complicated to take or administer. It may need special storage and handling. It may not be stocked at a retail pharmacy. Speciality medicines are typically expensive and treat complex conditions such as psoriatic arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus.
What is the ZSFG Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy?
We are an expanded service of the ZSFG outpatient pharmacy. We provide specialized care for certain complex medications. Our dedicated Specialty Pharmacy staff offers a range of additional services to support your safe use of specialty medications. These include refill reminders and medication follow-up calls, injection training, and free delivery of medicines within San Francisco. We also communicate directly through medical records with your ZSFG providers to improve your access to specialty medicines.
Will my insurance let ZSFG Outpatient Specialty Pharmacy dispense the medication?
We are contracted with most insurances in the San Francisco Bay Area. If your insurance requires the use of a specific pharmacy, we will transfer the prescription there and they will contact you.
How can I refill my medication?
To request a refill using the prescription number, call 628-206-8107 at any time.
To request a refill directly from the Specialty Pharmacy staff, call 628-206-6815, Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm
How do I dispose of my sharps container?
The ZSFG outpatient pharmacy can give you a free sharps container. When full, you can return the closed sharps container to the ZSFG outpatient pharmacy and we will give you a new empty container to take home.
